Laurence Furr bought a Celtic harp in 2013. After a few lessons, he worked on certification as a therapeutic musician. Less than three years later, he became certified in two accredited programs and is now a Certified Clinical Musician and a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner. He works in this capacity at JPS Health Network and Vitas Hospice in-patient-unit at Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He plays therapeutic music on the harp and Native American flute in all departments of the hospital, including surgery, ICU, NICU, ER, Trauma Unit, and all Critical Care Units. This work has become his passion and he considers it be a sacred calling.
While recording Deep Peace in the studio, Laurence realized that the harp had become an extension of himself and that the studio was his new home. As he plays the harp, he visualizes and hears the overtones that are created in a cappella singing of Gregorian Chant in large cathedrals. His style of playing harp is to create a beautiful melody and to allow the overtones to create harmonies as they wrap around themselves.
His melodies are inspired by people, places, fragrances, and color. Laurence is a certified aromatherapist and is qualified to teach the principals of using essential oils for emotional and spiritual healing as set forth by Aromagnosis.
Dr. Laurence Furr is Cantor/Organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Worth, TX. He has a B.M and M.M. in Pipe Organ performance from the University of Texas Arlington and Texas Christian University. His Ph.D. is in Humanities with an emphasis in music and art history. While working on his Ph.D., Dr. Furr was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, studying harpsichord at the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid, Spain.
He spends his free time trying new wines, single malt scotch, traveling, hiking, and reading. He enjoys spending time with his Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Mary Catherine. He considers northern New Mexico his spiritual home.
