Founding Software Engineer – Myndstream

Who we are:

We are Myndstream, you might not know us yet, but you will soon. We are a subsidiary of the world’s largest music for media company, Cutting Edge Group, you’ll have heard our soundtracks on epic TV shows like Stranger Things and iconic movies like Whiplash. Building on over 20 years of experience and success in influencing how people feel through music in TV, film and gaming, we launched our wellbeing venture, Myndstream.

We are on a mission to release the power of music to improve the health and wellbeing of the listener, whether that be to improve mood, boost productivity, or promote relaxation. We work with world leading musicians, scientists, and wellness practitioners to understand how music affects how we feel. This allows us to create health and wellbeing music that has the maximum impact on the listener. Our work has transformed many spaces globally from spas, hotels and schools as well as touching the daily lives of millions of people through Myndstream’s music on all major streaming platforms (give us a listen and see what you think).

We’re at the forefront with the technologies we implement and the solutions we’re on course to build will enhance the effectiveness & efficacy of our music through the development of algorithms and ML (get through to the interview and we’ll talk to you more about our game-changing plans!).

The Role:

You will be a linchpin member of our engineering team, playing a central role in shaping our product & technology. As such, you’ll develop a deep understanding of our product and user experience, and you’ll be responsible for building, maintaining and enhancing its infrastructure. You will be a master at juggling both frontend and backend development, as well as have experience with infrastructure and DevOps – more detail on our stack below. The ability to work autonomously with strong problem-solving skills is essential, you’ll be required to make quick decisions and solve complex technical problems. You’ll also need to balance this with effective collaboration within the team. Ultimately, you will need to understand our business goals to be able to translate them into technical solutions.

Responsibilities of the Founding Engineer:

  • Full stack responsibilities, with even split between front- & back- end. We expect all engineers to work across the stack (including infrastructure).
  • Design and implement aspects of system architecture, considering factors like scalability, performance, and security, as well as business direction.
  • Bring outside concepts & innovation to our systems, building proof-of-concept prototypes to validate ideas and gather feedback.
  • Ensure solutions and delivery with a lean team
  • Support and develop effective ways of working within and external to the engineering team

We’re looking for people who can demonstrate these skills & experience:

  • Full-Stack expertise:  Proficiency in both front-end and back-end technologies, with experience in building scalable and efficient solutions. Our current stack uses TypeScript on frontend and backend with React, Next.js, Nest.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, WebSockets with GitHub CI/CD to deploy onto Google Cloud Platform. We use some Rust for lower level audio work – Experience with Rust is not required but is desirable. Experience of other programming languages is desirable. Experience with ML/AI (e.g. during a Masters degree) is desirable.
  • Problem-solving in ambiguity:  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to tackle complex technical challenges. We’re looking for someone that can take projects from 0-1.
  • Mentorship:  Willingness to mentor and guide other engineers as the team grows.
  • Adaptability:  Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing startup environment and embracing new technologies and challenges.
  • Cross-functional collaboration:  Ability to work effectively within the team and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

A bit more about the nuts & bolts:

    • This is a full-time position based in our White City, London office
      • We operate a hybrid working model with a 3:2 (office:home) day split per week
